Why choose Cloudways?
There are so many blog hosting platforms out there! Between, you are spoilt for choice. So you may be wondering, out of all those sites, why should I go with Cloudways? Here are a few reasons why.
Cloudways is a top-rated online hosting platform, and rightfully so! With more than 40 global locations and a 99.99% uptime guarantee, Cloudways is all about performance and consistency. Plus, they have an exceptional customer support team. As a Cloudways user, anytime you need help, all you have to do is ping their 24/7 chat service. By choosing Cloudways, you are choosing a reliable host provider with flexibility for a low cost.
For me, blogging is both an outlet and a cornerstone of my business. Not only that, my business plan spans products, services, and more. So, choosing cloud hosting that can scale with my business at a reasonable price is essential. As my business and blog grew more prominent, I found that Cloudways was able to help me manage the growth.
Cloudways is one of the few companies that offer affordable and functional cloud-based managed WordPress hosting.
It’s easy to use
With Cloudways easy-to-use interface, I was able to start my WordPress blog in no time. This hosting platform is designed for users of all skill levels and tech experience, so even for total newbies, Cloudways is intuitive and straightforward to navigate.
There’s a free trial!
To top it off, after looking into multiple hosts, Cloudways was the only host to offer a 3-day free trial. For a blogger, a free trial is invaluable. Everyone has different needs; until you try out a software, it can be challenging to know if a software suits your needs. A free trial is great because it’s a risk-free way to experiment with Cloudways and see if it truly fits your blogging style.
Payment plans are flexible
Once the free trial expires, you can continue easily on a paid plan. If you are the type of person who enjoys flexibility when it comes to payment plans (well, who doesn’t?!), Cloudways should be right up your alley with their pay-as-you-go plans.
Cloudways pay-as-you-go plans do not hold you to annual set fees but instead adapt to your budget. The price varies depending on the cloud hosting provider and the number of server resources needed. So, you can start small and then scale up quickly as your blog grows.
Not only that, you only get charged for the resources and time that you use. The plans can be priced to a monthly price or an hourly price! It’s hard to imagine a plan more flexible than those offered by Cloudways. Plus, there is no contract to lock you in.
What makes Cloudways different from a traditional hosting platform? Well, for starters, Cloudways does not use shared hosting. Instead, as you can tell from the name, Cloudways uses cloud hosting. With cloud hosting, your site is hosted on a server’s network, i.e., the cloud network.
Other types of hosting are shared hosting, VPS, and dedicated hosting. Now, let’s take a closer look at shared hosting and why cloud hosting is better.
In shared hosting, the hosting service houses multiple websites on one server. This means that your website will have to share server resources with several other websites. Shared hosting is the traditional option and if you have a minimal website with static content (i.e., you don’t update your website and it stays the same), then shared hosting could be an affordable option.
However, there are several known issues with shared hosting. For example, shared hosting often comes with limitations on design and monetization restrictions (e.g., ads and affiliates). If you have a business blog that (hopefully!) will experience growth, avoid shared hosting and go for cloud hosting instead.
Slow websites repel traffic
A slow website impacts your ranking on Google search results. Not only that, even if you do manage to get a good ranking with a slow website, it will be challenging to keep your site visitor engaged after they click through to your site. The bounce rate probability increases from 30% within 1-3 seconds of load time to 90% after the 4th second. Sites that load within 3 seconds for more extended periods tend to have repeat visitors.
Cloud hosting service has multiple servers on a cloud. Depending on server load, your website (which is hosted on the cloud) can be bounced between different servers to provide the most optimal experience for your site visitors.
Location, location, location
Moreover, hosting or server location matters! So if you are in Australia and most of your audience is in the United States, data transfers a long way before reaching your target audience. With Cloudways, you can choose your server location that is different than your physical location. Making it easier to grow your website and reach your audience. Currently, Cloudways offers more than 65 data center locations across 5 continents. Pick the right server location for you and your business.
Be safe, be secure
Maintaining your site security is extremely important. Being in full control of your hosting allows you to monitor your website and address any potential threats before your site is affected. Cloud hosting is known to be more secure than shared hosting. While cloud hosting might cost more than shared hosting, the little extra is worth it if it gives you a more secure website.
Flexibility leads to growth
Making money off your site and having maximum flexibility is essential to growing your business. Shared hosting makes it challenging to scale as you are tied to a single server and the server’s resources. Plus, if you can’t maintain full security control and manage your hosting location, it may negatively affect your ranking.
Cloudways offers far more flexibility than traditional hosting sites. With Cloudways, you can even choose the hosting provider for your site, between Amazon, Google Cloud, Vultr, Linode, or Digital Ocean.
If your site suddenly gains popularity and traffic spikes on a traditional site, you might have to change to a new server or maybe even a new hosting site. Honestly, it is such a hassle. But on Cloudways, it is far simpler. All you have to do is head to “Server Management” and scale up within minutes.
How to Start a WordPress Blog on Cloudways.
Faster website, better security, and more flexibility – Cloudways is an excellent choice for business blogs. Have I got you convinced? I hope so because we will now look at setting up a WordPress blog on Cloudways.
- Launch a Server
The first step to start a blog on Cloudways is to sign up for a Cloudways account. You can sign up for free and access a 3-day free trial. Don’t forget to check your email for a confirmation email from Cloudways.
Now that you are all signed in let’s get started. On the top left, click on “servers” and then click on the bright blue “launch” button at the center of the page.
You’ll be guided to the next page to select your WordPress version, cloud provider, server size, and location.
I am currently using the 1 GB Digital Ocean cloud computing plan at just $0.0139/hr! My bill last month was $5.23. That’s a fantastic deal!
When you are done, click on the “launch now” button on the bottom right.
You’ll be guided to the main dashboard and asked to wait about 7 minutes while your server is made.
- Adding an Application
An application is where you can begin to build your website. Most hosting platforms make all changes live on your website, but not Cloudways. With Cloudways, you can choose whether you want all your changes to go live or if you rather work in the staging environment.
In staging, you can test all aspects of your website without affecting the live version. You can even push and pull changes between stage and live applications and not interrupt your live website. Perfect for experimenting until you get the website of your dreams!
Switch the level to “applications” to start in the staging area.
- Add Your Domain
Click on “domain management” on the left and input your domain name and click “save.”
Great job, that was easy!
- Install WordPress on Cloudways
On the left-hand side, select the first option called “access details” and click on the launch app arrow for WordPress.
WordPress will ask you for a username and password, go back to Cloudways, and input the given username and password.
And just like that, you’ve started a WordPress blog on Cloudways.
- Install a theme
On the left, click on “Appearance” and then “theme.”
You’ll be met with a library of themes. You can choose to click “add new” on the top left to see more free designs or “add new theme” by clicking on on the right box and then “upload theme.”
Congratulations! You now have a WordPress blog on Cloudways. It doesn’t get much simpler than that.
Now that you have your blog set up, I bet you can’t wait to start writing that very first blog post. To further up your game, here are a few tips for you.
- Posts. Under “Updates,” there is a button for “Posts.” Click on this section to add and create blog posts.
- Media. There are a lot of media options on WordPress. Add pictures, videos, documents, spreadsheets, and more. You can add alt., text, a title, captions, descriptions, and URLs all on WordPress.
- Email List. Once you have a website, a mailing list is a must. To connect with readers via email, I recommend starting with ConvertKits free plan.
- Themes. There are a ton of themes you can use. Most bloggers, including me, use Genesis. It allows for extensive customization and can be installed in minutes.
All that to say, Cloudways is one of the best blog hosting platforms that I have used. It’s scalable, reliable, and gives you an excellent bang for your buck. There’s always help available in the form of email support, live chat, and community forums. For its high performance and extensive features, Cloudways is well worth a try.
